Council mobilises to clean up region s overgrown cemeteries

Premium Content Subscriber only Mackay council workers have mobilised to clean up the region s cemeteries after wet weather sprouted long grass over the summer months. Walkerston resident Joan Hamilton said she noticed the cemetery off the Peak Downs Highway was overgrown when she visited during the Christmas period, and questioned what was being done about it. Mrs Hamilton said the Walkerston grounds were overgrown, and was similar to Mackay Cemetery on Cemetery Rd. Mackay Regional Council development services director Aletta Nugent said staff regularly monitored and maintained the region s cemeteries.

Friday, February 12, 2021 10:17 am Sarah Adelia Tipton Park, 89, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2021, at a local healthcare facility. She was born in Cleveland and lived her whole life in the historic neighborhood of downtown Cleveland. She was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and the last active church circle. She was a proud graduate of the 1949 class of Bradley High School. The 49’ers had many class reunions over the years. Sarah also attended the University of Chattanooga, where she was a member of Chi Omega.
