A possible tornado near Lake Odessa moved through Ionia County on June 26, 2021. Strong winds took down several trees and tore the roof off at least one building. Severe Weather: Risk for tornadoes Saturday afternoon and night. It left destruction and debris to be cleaned up in Ionia County. There were also several downed trees and significant debris over the roads on Clarksville and Harwood roads in Odessa Township.
Multiple agencies respond to house fire in Portland

PORTLAND Multiple emergency and first responder crews responded to a house fire early Wednesday.
The Portland Area Fire Authority was dispatched to a large residential structure fire before 7 a.m. Wednesday, April 21, in the 400 block of West Grand River Avenue in Portland.
There were no injuries in the fire, but the home is a total loss, according to the PAFA.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Portland Ambulance, the Portland Police Department, the Portland Department of Public Works, Portland Electric, the Lyons-Muir Fire Department, the Berlin-Orange Fire Department, the Westphalia Township Fire Department, the Pewamo Fire Department, the Sunfield Fire Department, the Ionia Department of Public Safety, Ionia County Victim Advocates, American Red Cross, Ionia County Sheriff’s Office and Ionia County Central Dispatch assisted the PAFA at the scene.
Lake Odessa man killed in tree-cutting accident

SEBEWA TWP. A 62-year-old Lake Odessa man died Saturday while he was attempting to cut down a tree, according to the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office.
Ionia County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched at 11:56 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, to Knox Road near Keefer Highway in Sebewa Township in reference to a man injured in a tree-cutting accident.
The sheriff s office reported a tree had fallen on top of the man while he was attempting to cut it down. The man’s injuries were severe, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

IONIA COUNTY, MI A man attempting to fell a tree Saturday died after the tree came down on top of him.
The victim, a 62-year-old Lake Odessa man, was pronounced dead at the scene, a news release from the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office states.
Deputies responded to the scene, in the area of Knox Road and S. Keefer Highway in Sebewa Township, at 11:56 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 20, the release states.
