SANTA FE – A freshman state senator has a bill in the state Legislature that would allow voters to sign up to be automatically mailed a ballot each election, eliminating the need to apply every time an election is held.
Sen. Harold Pope Jr., D-Albuquerque, introduced the measure, Senate Bill 235, last month to create a permanent absentee voter list in each county statewide. It would be available to almost all eligible New Mexico voters, disallowing only absentee voters who reside overseas, who are military stationed outside the United States or who have a mailing address outside the state.
