Revenue Minister and Congress Legislature Party leader Balasaheb Thorat has offered his one year s salary as a public representative while the 54 party legislators in the upper and lower houses would donate their one month s salaries to the CMRF.

The former Congress MP and Maharashtra Minister reportedly breathed his last in a Mumbai hospital at around 10 am. A two time Lok Sabha MP, Gaikwad has represented the Mumbai South Central consituency. He had also served as a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, winning thrice from Dharavi. He had also served as a leading member of the state Cabinet. From 2017 to 2020 he had been the President of the Mumbai Congress committee. His daughter Varsha Gaikwad is presently the School Education Minister in the Maharashtra government.

MPSC reverses stand, to hold exam on March 21 Updated: Updated: Share Article AAA A day after protests over the State government’s decision to postpone the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) exams due to rising COVID-19 cases, the commission on Friday announced March 21 as the new date. An MPSC circular clarified that the exam centres and hall tickets issued for the March 14 exam would be valid for the new date. It further said that the Maharashtra State Engineering Services pre-examination and the Maharashtra Subordinate Services’ non-gazetted Group-B combined recruitment exam, slated for March 27 and April 11, would proceed as scheduled. On Thursday, angry protests and sit-ins staged by aspirants were witnessed across the State, especially in Pune and other cities prompting Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to hastily assure students that the commission would announce the fresh dates.

Fresh dates will be announced soon: CM The Maharashtra government’s decision to postpone the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) exams in the wake of rising COVID-19 cases sparked protests across the State on Thursday, with aspirants taking to the streets in Pune, Aurangabad, and other cities even as Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that fresh dates would be announced on Friday. “This postponement is not for two or three months, but merely for a few days. I have directed MPSC officials to end this confusion and announce the new exam date on Friday. The exams will be held within eight days of the new schedule,” said Mr. Thackeray even as protests from the aspirants, the majority of whom hail from Maharashtra’s rural hinterland, rattled the State.
