After days of speculation over the Uttarakhand Chief Minister’s future amid rumblings among state leaders over his “style of functioning”, Trivendra Singh Rawat today tendered his resignation to Governor Baby Rani Maurya in Dehradun. This comes a day after Rawat met senior leaders in Delhi, including party president JP Nadda, and Rajya Sabha MP and BJP’s national media in charge Anil Baluni.

Pauri Garhwal MP Tirath Singh Rawat was on Wednesday chosen as the leader of the Uttarakhand BJP legislature party, paving the way for his becoming the new chief minister of the hill state. He will take oath as the chief minister at 4 pm today. The decision was announced by former CM Trivendra Singh Rawat.
BJP s legislature party met was held to decide the successor of Trivendra Singh Rawat who has resigned as the chief minister, ending days of speculations about a leadership change in the BJP-ruled hill state amid reports of discontent against him. He was to complete four years in the office later this month.

There has been a political uproar in Uttarakhand after Trivendra Singh Rawat resigned from the post of Chief Minister on Tuesday and lobbying for the replacement in the ruling BJP has started. Dhan Singh Rawat, who is a close aide of the Trivendra and the state s Higher Education and Cooperation Minister, is leading the race for the post. Apart from him, Lok Sabha MP Ajay Bhatt, Rajya Sabha MP Anil Baluni, State Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj, and Union Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank are also among the contenders for the post of Chief Minister.
