The victories of two former State Ministers, K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran and Thangam Thennarasu of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam are significant in their own unique ways.
While Mr. Ramachandran gets the distinction of having won Assembly elections for ninth time, Mr. Thennarasu has won with one of the biggest margins of over 60,000 votes.
Mr. Ramachandran defeated former State Minister, Vaigaichelvan of AIADMK with a margin of 39,034 votes. While Mr. Ramachandran got 91,040 votes his close rival got 52,006 votes.
Mr. Ramachandran has achieved this feat in 11 attempts, a rare record for any candidate from southern districts. The veteran leader had won six times from Sattur Assembly seat out of seven times he had contested since 1977. Once, he got elected from Vilathikulam in 1989 on AIADMK (Jayalalithaa faction).

93 counting agents, staff and media persons tested positive
The stage is set for counting of votes on Sunday morning for seven Assembly constituencies in Virudhunagar district, the outcome of which will decide the fate of 149 candidates in the fray.
The process will start at 8 a.m. with counting of postal votes in seven halls by the counting staff in the presence of Assistant Returning officer and counting agents. After a gap of 30 minutes, counting of votes from the control units of 2,370 electronic voting machines will be taken up.

HUBBALLI: Industries manufacturing and supplying medical oxygen in the backward north Karnataka region have come to the rescue of Bengaluru.
Of the seven oxygen manufacturing units in the state, five are in Kalyana Karnataka.
Some are playing a vital role in distribution of oxygen across the state of 21 distributors, 14 are in north Karnataka.
Large and medium scale industries minister Jagadish Shettar said: “As the state is experiencing a massive surge in Covid-19 cases in the second wave, it’s our priority to expedite oxygen production and distribution.
