HOSHIARPUR: The Punjab Police has busted a gang of drug smugglers, with the arrest of three persons, and seized 8kg of heroin, an official said on Saturday.
Addressing the media here, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Navjot Singh Mahal said acting on a tip off, a police team stopped an SUV at Thuana village on the Mahilpur-Phagwara road on Friday night.
While searching the vehicle, police seized 8kg of heroin, which was hidden in a cavity created near the radiator of the car, police said.

PATIALA: Teachers, parents, students, and drivers and conductors of school buses held a protest in Patiala on Wednesday to demand that schools be allowed open, as teachers and students had suffered a lot during the pandemic lockdown imposed last year.
Members of unions of teachers, parents and school bus drivers carried out a protest march from Dukhniwaran Sahib to deputy commissioner’s office in Patiala. They also submitted a memorandum to officials. Members of various unions held the protest jointly under the Federation of Private Schools and Associations (FPSA). “We held protests across the state and asked the state government not to impose any lockdown on private schools. We will follow all Covid-19 guidelines issued by the CBSE and Punjab government as well. Private schools have been shut in Punjab for10 days now.

What is kidney paired donation?
KPD is a process of exchange of recipient/donor pairs, who are related but incompatible. Recipient of one pair is compatible with the donor of the other pair. KPD is a way through which centres can support such pairs and increase the donor pool.
The burden of chronic kidney failure is huge in India i.e. more than 12 crore people battle this illness. Every year, close to three lakh patients suffer with end stage kidney failure where they either need dialysis or transplantation. The irony is that hardly one-third has access to the same and of these, only 10 % sustain for a longer period.
