While tolling is one possible solution to raise revenue for roads, Utah officials are showing interest in per-miles driven fees for alternative-fuel vehicles to offset losses from gas taxes. With more cars hitting the road again as the summer travel season begins, Utah officials are studying how the state can continue to maintain and build highways with less gas tax money as cars become more fuel-efficient.
