Access to affordable housing is one of the top issues for Tupelo voters this election cycle

TUPELO • When Timiko Hampton was notified she was finally getting a housing voucher to help her afford rent in Tupelo, she quickly began looking for potential apartments. But as she searched, she soon found that many private landlords in the All-America City would not accept her voucher. It was weeks before she found a property owner who would accept the voucher. Quote “Sometimes I think the council members who don’t experience this type of lifestyle, they don t understand the lack of affordable housing and what a damper it is on your life. CRIME REPORTS: Thursday Jan. 21, 2021

Lee County Sheriff s Office A Palmetto Road man said he received a Chase Bank debit card in the mail around the first of the year. He has never opened an account with that bank and has no idea who used his identity to do so. A County Road 1501 Nettleton woman said a black male came onto her property and stole two chickens worth $75 each. She has an image of the suspect on a trail camera. She said people trespassing on her land has been an ongoing problem. A County Road 1389 Saltillo woman said her former daughter-in-law transferred $510 from her debit card using the Cash app. She found a piece of paper with her debit card information in what appeared to be the suspect s handwriting. She said the suspect is the ex-wife of her son, who is suspected of doing the same thing to her account in the past.

Photo Courtesy of NCDOT. A new section of the Greensboro Urban Loop is now open. It will provide some much needed relief for local neighborhoods and businesses. Just before Christmas, the northern section of the loop from Lawndale Drive to North Elm Street officially welcomed traffic. It was a lot of work to make the December 23 opening happen, including challenges with weather during the construction.
