MORINELLO: Unmask Our Children
By: Staff Reporter
Assemblyman Angelo Morinello (R,C,I-Niagara Falls) joined his colleagues in the Assembly Minority Conference to introduce a bill that would prohibit a mask mandate by state agencies for children in educational settings like schools and camps. It would apply to all New Yorkers under 18 years old who are healthy and asymptomatic.
“The constantly-changing mask guidelines have created enormous confusion for our parents, kids and teachers,” said Morinello. “Our teachers have endured so much this school year to foster the best learning environment for our students. We should entrust our individual school districts to make the best decisions for their students. As the summer approaches, and temperatures and vaccination rates continue to rise while positivity rates and hospitalizations go down, it’s time we unmask our kids.”
Leaders in the stateâs restaurant industry are hopeful as thousands of New York eateries, diners and bars can pre-register this weekend to apply for up to $10 million in federal aid to assist with economic hardships due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Businesses can apply for up to $10 million through the American Rescue Planâs $28 billion Restaurant Revitalization Fund. Pre-registration is currently available through the Small Business Associationâs online portal. More than 50,000 people pre-registered within the first two hours of the site going live Friday.
Applications can start to be submitted at noon Monday.
âThe opening of registration Monday at noon is a very good sign for this industry,â Scott Wexler, executive director of the Empire State Restaurant and Tavern Association, said Friday. âAs Iâm sure everyone knows, the public health restrictions that were imposed on restaurants and taverns and other places like that were economically devast

Assemblyman Kevin Byrne (R,C,I,SAM,ROS-Mahopac) recently joined Assembly Minority Leader Will Barlcay (R,C,I-Pulaski), Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C,I,-Corning), New York’s largest energy consumers representative Multiple Intervenors, and more than 70 state organizations including leading advocates for organized labor and business, calling for a fiscal impact study to guide the Climate Action Council’s (CAC) development plan. The CAC was tasked with implementing the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA), and was empowered to radically change the way electricity is generated in New York state and thereby threatens the reliability and affordability of utility services for millions of New Yorkers.
