DAVE FREDERICK PHOTOS Dave Frederick April 20, 2021 Thursday Night Lights - It all looked normal and idyllic on the Cape campus April 15. Sussex Tech baseball and softball were on the ball fields and the scoreboards were lit up. Later, the Ravens’ soccer team played Cape inside Legends Stadium. The Ravens won all three contests, but there were fans and electricity and lots of action. The Cape girls’ lacrosse team defeated the Padua Pandas on the Champions Stadium pitch. Cape’s girls’ tennis team defeated Sussex Academy 4-1, all courts filled up.

She has trained with Taj Washington at Alpha Training for the past four years and just started with track coach Mark Dendy this spring. She’s a sprinter by nature, but has just started playing around with the long jump as well. Her cousin, Joey Shipe, is currently a junior at Cape. Champion Crowned in 2021 Junior Solar Sprint

Solar Sprint Winner Aarushi Nayak Middle School Students Compete in Virtual Event A Middletown home school student earned the title of 2021 Junior Solar Sprint champion in a virtual competition held Friday. Each year, the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control teams up with the Delaware Technology Student Association for the event. Middle school students work with classmates and teacher advisors over several months to build model cars powered by solar photovoltaic cells, better known as solar panels. “As we continue to move toward cleaner, renewable energy sources, the competition provides students with an opportunity to demonstrate how we can meet our future energy needs,” said DNREC Secretary Shawn M. Garvin. “Seeing how your design stacks up against others from around the state is a fun and educational experience that students can learn and grow from.”

Cape softball knocks off Sussex Academy 16-0

Frederick tosses perfect game for the Vikings Cape senior Marissa Frederick delivers one of her 16 strikeouts on the way to her first no-hit performance of the season. DAN COOK PHOTOS Dan Cook April 13, 2021 Cape senior pitcher Marissa Frederick had the right stuff April 12, as she delivered a perfect 16-strikeout, no-hit performance at previously undefeated Sussex Academy. The Vikings won 16-0 to move to 4-2 on the season, while the Seahawks dropped to 3-1. “My curve and rise balls were really working today,” Frederick said. “But it’s just about what you see when they get into the box on how you’re going to approach them and what you’re going to do to get them out. It’s great to know I have such a great team behind me, because there is always that possibility that you’re going to throw that slip-up pitch. You have to keep the thoughts of the no-hitter out of your head. You don’t speak about it, let alone think about it. You just do your best on that
