Manufactured housing resident scholarship entries due June 1
Qualifying residents of manufactured housing in Delaware can receive scholarship funds to further their education. First State Manufactured Housing Association is offering four $2,500 scholarships to graduating seniors, GED recipients or students who are currently enrolled in college, technical schools or trade schools. Full- or part-time registration in an accredited program is acceptable. Award recipients may reapply annually. Eligible candidates must have lived in a manufactured or modular home in Delaware for at least one year prior to the application. Evaluations will consider essay response, scholastic grades, community involvement, honors recommendations and personal goals. Deadline for submission is Tuesday, June 1. The Cape softball squad started off slow in its April 9 game against Indian River, falling behind 4-0 after three innings. But the Lady Vikings’ wake-up alarm went off in the fourth inning as they plated five runs en route to an 8-6 victory. They move to 3-2 on the season, while Indian River drops to 1-5.
Indian River had pulled ahead 6-5 in the sixth, but couldn’t hold down the Vikings in the seventh when Marissa Frederick went yard, driving in the winning runs.

The Sussex Academy softball team coached by Dave Rogers is off to a 3-0 start, winning one-run games against Seaford 5-4, Indian River 7-6, and Milford 6-5.
Senior Erin Carey hit a home run against Seaford, while freshman Rachel Carey homered in the Indian River game and in the win over Milford. Both sisters played field hockey in the fall for the Seahawks of coach Maxine Fluharty. Erin has verbally committed to play field hockey next fall for Limestone University in Gaffney, S.C. Limestone competes in the South Atlantic Conference.

Sussex Academy junior Mikayla Dayton has been selected as a 2021 Carson Scholar.
With this honor, Dayton will receive a $1,000 scholarship that will be invested for her college education.
The Carson Scholar fund awards scholarships to students in grades 4-11 who excel academically and are dedicated to serving their communities. Students must be nominated by a school educator, have a minimum GPA of 3.75 and display humanitarian qualities.
