He might have accepted it was an impressive win but Leitrim manager Hugh Donnelly claimed last Sunday s victory over Derry “was hard fought, and it was nip and tuck for long periods.
“The scoreline was very flattering to be honest. Derry made it very difficult for us for long periods of the game. For whatever reason, we were slow to start with; we were sluggish; we just didn’t do the things we were supposed to be doing and we made very hard work of it.”

Gardaí were called to remove a large crowd who gathered at the grounds of Abbeyside/Ballinacourty GAA club in Waterford over the weekend.
A number of Leaving Cert students had a party on the grounds, lighting a large fire at the top of the main pitch, during the early hours of Saturday morning, according to the Dungarvan Leader and Waterford News&Star.
Club members had to take part in a large scale clean-up of ‘glass bottles and cans’ before training for young players on Saturday morning.
The club condemned the anti-social behaviour in a Facebook post calling on parents to help out in preventing it.

THE GAA has today reported a deficit at national level of €34.1 million after 2020 revenue was badly hit by the Covid-19 pandemic.
This figure comprises a consolidated deficit at central level (Central Council and Croke Park) of €27.1M with an additional €7 million deficits at county and provincial level. The figure does not include any losses potentially incurred by clubs.
Drastically reduced gate receipts and commercial income were largely responsible for this deficit as the GAA’s total revenue fell by almost 60 per cent, down to €31.4 million from €73.9 million.

Portlaoise RFC was founded in 1966 and now stands over 50 years in existence. From humble beginnings, the club is now located in Togher with excellent facilities that would have only been a pipe dream over 50 years ago. They can look back proudly and take huge credit at the progress they have made since their inception.
After Rathdowney Rugby club ceased in the early 50s, the County of Laois was without a club and this prompted a meeting of Portlaoise rugby supporters. After a meeting in 1966, the club was formed and they began life opposite the County hospital before land was purchased on the Mountmellick road in 1969.
