Three Westfield-Mayville Rotarians Honored With Multiple Paul Harris Fellow Awards | News, Sports, Jobs

Feb 20, 2021 The Rotary Club of Westfield-Mayville has seen three of its members earn their next levels of Rotary International’s Paul Harris Fellow recognition. The members and their levels are Tracy Bennett, who earned his second Paul Harris Fellow award; Dan Smith, who earned his third Paul Harris Fellow; and Sue Hammond, who earned her fifth Paul Parris Fellow.A Paul Harris Fellow (PHF) is a person who has been recognized as having done something significant for others. The Rotary Foundation gives the Paul Harris Fellow honor for an initial contribution of $1,000 and for each $1,000 additional gift up to the Major Donor level of $10,000. The money is used for various global humanitarian efforts.

Westfield students honored as Scholars of the Month | News, Sports, Jobs

Elber Lopez Hernandez Three Westfield Academy and Central School District high school students were named as Scholars of the Month by the Rotary Club of Westfield-Mayville. They were Matthew Schumaker for the month of September, Madeline Lancaster for October, and Elber Lopez Hernandez for November. Though the Westfield-Mayville Rotary Club could not honor these outstanding scholars during an in-person special program, each student received a framed certificate and hearty congratulations. Matthew Schumaker, a senior, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Matthew and Carrie Schumaker. In his junior year, this scholar was enrolled in three Jamestown Community College courses, and also an Advanced Placement course. During his senior year, Schumaker enrolled in five JCC courses, plus high school courses. When Schumaker graduates in June, he will have earned 28 college credits and a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation with Mastery in Science.

Solar energy highlighted during Westfield-Mayville Rotary program | News, Sports, Jobs

Dec 10, 2020 During a recent Zoom meeting of the Rotary Club of Westfield-Mayville, members learned more about residential solar energy. The program was given by Ryan Calalesina, a sales consultant for Solar Liberty. Jan Berkhouse, club president, welcomed the guest presenter, and Rotarian John “Doc” Hamels, program sponsor, introduced Calalesina. Calalesina is a Chautauqua County native who holds a bachelor’s degree from the State University at Cortland and a master’s degree Marshall University. He is passionate about sports, the environment, and his growing family. He joined Solar Liberty in 2011. “I love helping people and helping the environment,” Calalesina said. “I find it very rewarding to know that I am helping people financially, and helping the environment at the same time. This is my dream job!”
