Labour Party proposes cannabis legalisation

Family doctors call for minimum age on legal cannabis use

Family doctors call for minimum age on legal cannabis use Association of Private Family Doctors proposes minimum age for legalising use of cannabis 16 April 2021, 8:03am by Matthew Vella The Association of Private Family Doctors has claimed the decriminalisation of cannabis can lead to the use of other illicit drugs, calling for the establishment of a minimum age for legal use of cannabis.  The APFD said it recognised the need for decriminalisation of possession of small quantities of cannabis for personal use, but it said legalisation would lead to an increase in overall consumption and a potential increase in use of other illicit drugs.

Legalisation of cannabis will lead to increase in consumption

The Association of Private Family Doctors (APFD) on Thursday acknowledged “the need” for the decriminalisation of possession of small quantities of cannabis for personal use but warned that legalising the use of the drug will lead to an increase in its overall consumption. It could also potentially lead to an increase in the use of other illicit drugs, it said.  According to a proposed reform, cannabis users will be allowed to grow their own plants at home and legally carry up to seven grams of the drug for personal use. The white paper is open to public consultation until May 11.
