SURAT: Five policemen were booked for murder on Wednesday evening in connection with the death of two youths inside Chikhli police station last week.
The offence was registered against suspended police inspector Ajitsinh Vala, sub-inspector M B Kokni, head constable Shaktisinh Zala, constables Ravindra Rathod and Ramji; based on a complaint filed by Mitesh Jadhav, brother of one of the deceased youths Ravi Jadhav.
Ravi and Sunil Pawar (both aged 19 years) were found dead on the morning of July 21 inside the computer room of Chikhli police station. Police had claimed that the duo had hanged themselves using computer cables from the ceiling fan. The duo was picked up by the accused cops over suspicion of motorcycle theft the previous day.

A group of young tribal activists staged a protest and demanded justice for the two youths.
The 19-year-olds, Sunil Pawar and Ravi Jadha, both a native of Dang, were found hanging in a room in the police station. They were picked up by the police as suspects in a motorcylce theft case.
Surat: Three cops of Navsari police were suspended on Thursday following the suicide of two teenaged bike theft suspects at Chikhli police station.
Superintendent of Navsari police, Rishikesh Upadhyay, suspended sub-inspector M B Kokni, head constable Shaktisinh Zala and constable Ramji Yadav. The trio had brought the two suspects, Sunil Pawar and Ravi Jadhav, to the police station.
“They had brought the two suspects to the police station and did not follow any norms or the duty that they should have done thereafter. So, for their negligence the three have been suspended. Meanwhile, an inquiry is already going on,” Upadhyay said.
