Apr 27, 2021 Karen Lee “Flash” Edwards, 75, of Mingo Junction, Ohio went to be with the Lord on Sunday April 25, 2021 at the Valley Hospice Care Center North in Steubenville, OH. She was born November 25, 1945 in Wheeling, WV, a daughter of the late William H. and Dorothy M. (Matthews) Edwards, Sr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William H. “Squeeks” Edwards, Jr.; and a brother-in-law, Bernard Sternsher. Karen received her Bachelors Degree from Mt. Union College and her Master Degree from Mary Grove College. Karen was an elementary school teacher for the Indian Creek School District, retiring in 2008 and she is currently still substitute teaching. During her teaching career she was in charge of the student senate; created a school newspaper “Hills Character Gazette”; and was also the head of character education at the school, this was very important to her as it was her way of segmenting church into school.

Marian Rose Tate | News, Sports, Jobs - The Herald Star

Marian Rose (Stout) Tate, 95, of Brilliant, OH, passed away Saturday April 17, 2021 at home. She was born March 30, 1926 in St. Clairsville, OH, a daughter of the late John A. Stout and Marie (Pasco) Stout Manley. On September 4, 1942 she married the love of her life, Chalmer E. Tate. Chalmer and Rose eventually made their home in Brilliant, OH with their eight children. The most enjoyable moments of Rose’s life were shared with Chalmer, their children and their grandchildren. Their door was always open to family and their extended family of friends. Chalmer and Rose were among the original group of couples that formed the Brilliant American Legion Post 573. Rose spent many years working in the canteen, serving as an officer and a member of the Women’s Auxiliary. She participated in many Legion functions, especially the fish fries.

Edward Simpson | News, Sports, Jobs - The Herald Star

Edward T. “Ed” Simpson, 79, of Brilliant, OH, passed away peacefully Monday April 12, 2021 at home. He was born May 1, 1941 in Waynesburg, OH, a son of the late Bernard and Dorothy (Owens) Simpson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Douglas S. Simpson; and a brother, Franklin Simpson. Ed is survived by his wife of 56 years, Vivian (Burge) Simpson, whom he married on November 28, 1964; and a son, Ryan Simpson of Mingo Junction, OH. Ed retired in 2001 out of Ironworkers Local #549 in Wheeling, WV. He was a SCR project coordinator for two years at the Brilliant Cardinal Plant.
