McLean County Approves 5th Wind Farm; Names Rogal To Board Vacancy

WGLT McLean County Clerk Kathy Michael on Thursday administered the oath to Jim Rogal as he was sworn in to serve on the county board. The McLean County Board on Thursday approved construction of a $350 million wind farm project in the southeastern corner of the county, becoming the county’s fifth wind farm. The board also named labor union leader Jim Rogal to fill a board vacancy in District 4, and approved a contract for interim county administrator Cassy Taylor. Sapphire Sky Wind Energy LLC won approval to build up to 64 wind turbines of up to 590 feet tall across more than 14,000 acres in Bellflower and West townships. The wind farm would generate 250 megawatts of power and plans to provide power to about 80,000 homes annually.

WYDOT infrastructure wishlist includes Teton Pass tunnel, electric vehicle network

For decades, a tunnel through Teton Pass has been a curiosity for Teton County residents, a pie-in-the-sky aspirational fix to the avalanche problems on Highway 22. Eager citizens have penned letters to the editor to the News&Guide and its predecessors in support; a few political hopefuls have included it in their platforms, hoping to prove their commitment to audacious community solutions. That advocacy has been to no avail. But depending how fortune’s wheel spins, the Teton Pass tunnel could one day be a reality. The subterranean highway is again on officials’ minds, as the Wyoming Department of Transportation has included it in a wishlist of projects to be sent to the Biden administration as part of the American Jobs Plan, the infrastructure bill Congress is considering.

Four Elected To District 87 School Board

courtesy Four candidates won four open seats on the District 87 school board Tuesday although one of them received far fewer votes than the others. Fitzgerald Samedy faced criticism for his support of controversial former District 87 candidate Jon Reed. Reed eventually withdrew from the race after his past racist and misogynist social media posts came to light during the campaign. Samedy and Reed were running together and shared campaign signs. Samedy later tried to distance himself from Reed. Samedy once announced plans to quit the race himself but later changed his mind. Samedy received just 2,656 votes. The other candidates in the race (incumbents Brigette Beasley Gibson, Elizabeth Fox Anvick and Chuck Irwin) received 3,700-4,000, according to the Bloomington Election Commission. That suggests Samedy lost some votes over the controversy. Regardless, he s won a four-year term on the board, with only four candidates in the race.
