Local market raises funds to feed hungry Tuesday, February 9, 2021 12:01 PM Newport Avenue Market and Oliver Lemon’s customers and colleagues have raised $75,015.67 to help alleviate hunger in Central Oregon. The money raised, as a result of the markets’ Food for February fundraiser, will be used to purchase groceries at cost for Family Kitchen of Bend, Sisters Kiwanis Food Bank, and Meals on Wheels of Central Oregon. Newport Avenue Market and Oliver Lemon’s shoppers donated throughout the month of December, and the employee-owned markets matched the funds for a combined total of $75,015.67. This program was designed to make the most of donation dollars, with Newport Avenue Market and Oliver Lemon’s working closely with their wholesalers to purchase thousands of pounds of food, including fresh produce and meat, from the shopping lists of Family Kitchen, Sisters Kiwanis Food Bank, and Meals on Wheels of Central Oregon.

Garden club cultivates kindness Tuesday, December 15, 2020 11:44 AM Sisters Garden Club donated winter clothing to Family Access Network (FAN) and provided for other needs in their holiday season of giving. photo by Sue Stafford ‘Tis the season of giving and the members of the Sisters Garden Club showed their holiday spirit last week with donations distributed to the Sisters Kiwanis Food Bank, Sisters Family Access Network (FAN), and to the Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire Department for their Giving Tree Drive. Giving is nothing new for the Garden Club. Every year in the past, the members have gathered for their annual holiday party in early December. At that event, all the members would bring donations for a local charity. COVID-19 robbed them of their party this year but couldn’t stop them from doing good in the community.

Mid Oregon’s Holiday Dough fundraiser more than doubles last year’s donations BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) Thanks to the generosity of Central Oregonians, Mid Oregon Credit Union’s Holiday Dough fundraiser collected nearly $8,700 in donations, more than doubling the $3,480 raised in 2019. Proceeds from Holiday Dough support local charities that provide food, clothing, and shelter for individuals and families in the greatest need during the holidays. The 2020 Holiday Dough fundraising campaign commenced in early November and concluded on Giving Tuesday (December 2, 2020). Mid Oregon received donations ranging from a few pennies to a $500 gift from a Bend-area art gallery. In past years, Mid Oregon’s Holiday Dough fundraiser invited members to make financial contributions at the branches to assist local food pantries with holiday meals.
