Stanford tops Arizona 54-53 to win women s NCAA Tournament

SAN ANTONIO (AP) â Stanford topped Arizona 54-53 to win the women s NCAA Tournament, giving coach Tara VanDerveer her first title since 1992.
Haley Jones scored 17 points and Stanford beat Arizona, giving the Cardinal their first national championship in 29 years.
It wasnât a masterpiece by any stretch with both teams struggling to score and missing easy layups and shots, but Stanford did just enough to pull off the win surviving a miss by Aari McDonald that bounced off the rim at the buzzer.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Jackson State Lady Tigers will play for tomorrow’s SWAC Championship after defeating Grambling State by a final score of 65-49 Friday afternoon.
It was all JSU in the first quarter of play after opening up the first five minutes on a 9-0 run. The JSU defense held Grambling scoreless until the 3:30 mark of the first quarter after an Alexis Holt layup finally ended the JSU run. Grambling utilized a 9-3 run of their own to battle back to a 12-9 score at the end of the first quarter, with Jackson State holding the three-point lead.

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Jackson State womenâs basketball coach Tomekia Reed has made the mental health of her team a priority this season.
After having the 2019-20 season end prematurely due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Reed changed her coaching style ahead of the 2020-21 season to fit the needs over her team. Some practices, the Lady Tigers wouldnât even touch a basketball, instead they would watch film and even play games.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Jackson State Lady Tigers defeated Mississippi Valley State by a final of 70-47 Wednesday evening in the first round of the SWAC Tournament.
Jackson State jumped out to a 19-4 lead after the first quarter of play with stellar defense. Valley outscored JSU 16-15 in the second quarter, but the Lady Tigers took a 34-20 lead into the break.
The Blue and White went on to outscore Valley 29-20 in the third and fourth quarter to ultimately come out of top 70-47.JSU was led by Dayzsha Rogan who finished with 11 points on the night with three 3-pointers made.
