The COVID-19 pandemic might have slowed down business openings and construction but it certainly hasn’t stopped them.
A number of housing developments are planned in Harrisburg, Susquehanna Township, Hampden Township, East Pennsboro Township and throughout the midstate.
And stores including REI Co-op, PaulB Mechanicsburg, Five Below and TJ Maxx are all opening new locations in central Pennsylvania this year.
And three companies have plans to open multiple locations in the region: Shiny Shell CarWash, Xfinity and Pet Supplies Plus.
Other new locations include a childcare center, a hospital, newly built medical offices, a doggie daycare, restaurants, hotels, an indoor trampoline park and more.

Comcast has again delayed a plan to impose data-usage limits on Xfinity Internet broadband customers in its northeast U.S. region which sparked a backlash from customers and politicos this time, until sometime in 2022.
Originally, the cable giant said it would start enforcing usage caps in 14 states and Washington, D.C., and levying surcharges of up to $100 for usage that exceeds the caps beginning in April 2021. The company then pushed the start date to July, after Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro raised objections because of the impact of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. “This is not the time to change the rules when it comes to internet data usage and increase costs,” Shapiro said in a statement earlier this month.
Comcast will be joining Service Electric as a cable TV and internet provider in Wilkes-Barre.
The city council on Thursday voted unanimously to approve a franchise deal with Comcast in which the cable provider will pay the city the same fees Service Electric pays.
Mayor George Brown said the move will bring competition to the local cable/internet market and provide city residents with more choice.
Jay Maniskas, senior director of construction for Comcast, told the council that Comcast is a nontraditional cable network, in that it uses a âfiber deepâ architecture that gets fiber closer to the home before switching to coaxial cable.
Comcast opened a new Xfinity store Wednesday at Richland 315 in Plains Twp.
Xfinity is Comcast s brand for residential internet, TV, home security and mobile products. Customers visiting the store can see demonstrations of these products, pay bills, return equipment and purchase mobile accessories and smart devices including smartphones, thermostats and cameras.
Xfinity Mobile is available to Xfinity internet customers and the store provides large displays of the latest smartphones for customers shopping for a new device.
It marks the second Xfinity store in Northeast Pennsylvania. Comcast opened its Dickson City Xfinity store at 1128 Commerce Blvd. in 2015.
âOur newest Xfinity Store in Plains Twp. is an important part of our ongoing effort to improve the customer experience,â said Keystone Region Senior Vice President Toni Murphy.
