EASTERN SHORE, Md.- Governor Larry Hogan’s state of emergency has lifted and some groups say it’s at a time when all workers don’t have protections.
Groups advocating for food and farm workers said after more than a year of pressure simple precautions still have not been put in place.
People we spoke with said the issue of these workers not getting protections has been happening for years, but the pandemic has really shed a light on the disparities.
We’re told by one advocate that earlier this year when legislatures passed the Maryland essential workers protection act it required employers to provide commonsense COVID-19 protections for essential workers.
Protesters call on Hopkins to drop nuclear weapons research
| January 27, 2021 Members of Prevent Nuclear War Maryland, a Baltimore-based anti-war, anti-nuclear weapons organization, protested the University’s involvement in nuclear weapons research with the U.S. government on Friday, Jan. 22.

On Friday, around a dozen protesters held bright yellow banners reading “nuclear weapons are illegal” on the Charles Street median and in front of the marble Hopkins sign on the Merrick Gateway, conversing with passers-by. Protesters criticized the University’s engagement with nuclear weapons research at the Applied Physics Lab (APL).

A United Nations working group was formed in 2016 with a mandate to devise legal provisions to create a nuclear-free world. While it was supported by 123 countries, the U.S., the U.K., France and Russia voted against the group alongside Israel, a country that is widely believed to be a nuclear power. China, India and Pakistan abstained.
