A man who was found guilty of contempt of court this year because he offered legal advice while he was subject to a court order not to do so has been ordered to pay $11,000 in fines and to perform 230 hours of community service.
Mario Roy, 49, appeared before Superior Court Justice André Vincent at the Montreal courthouse on Wednesday, where he was sanctioned for having violated a court order issued against him on May 30, 2018.

A man charged with harassing and intimidating two Montreal lawyers was denied bail for a second time on Wednesday.
Superior Court Justice Johanne St-Gelais said the reflections Mario Roy, 49, of Wickham, claims to have made while detained for the past two months appear to be “fragile and embryonic.”

She ruled that she saw no reason to reverse a decision made by a Quebec Court judge at the end of March denying Roy bail because he posed a potential risk to public safety if he were to be released.
