Fire Near Prince Albert Still Not Contained

By News Room May 18, 2021 | 2:36 PM The Vice President of Operations for the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency says the fire threatening Prince Albert and surrounding area has been named the Cloverdale Fire which started around 3 o’clock Monday afternoon off Cloverdale Road approximately 4 kilometres north of Prince Albert. Steve Roberts says due to high temperatures and a 50 to 70 kilometres per hour wind, the fire grew throughout the day and into the evening. The Cloverdale fire currently encompasses 3,694 hectares. He says resources deployed include ground engine units, ground crews, multiple air tanker groups and heavy equipment which will continue to work on the fire throughout today.

More evacuations ordered as Cloverdale wildfire continues to grow

Prince Albert Daily Herald More evacuations have been ordered as the wildfire burning north of Prince Albert continues to grow. On Wednesday morning, an evacuation order was issued for residents of the Berg Subdivision of the RM of Garden River. The evacuation order noted that the fire was threatening the residents. “The wildfire is fast moving and individuals that are in the Berg Subdivision must start evacuation immediately,” the alert, sent over the province’s emergency alert system, read. Officials say the expanded evacuation notice affects roughly a dozen acreages located east of the fire. People are asked to register at the Margo Fournier Centre in downtown Prince Albert once they evacuate.

Steve Roberts says the fire now exceeds 3,700 hectares and has grown to the East and Northeast, away from Prince Albert and into agricultural land, which has less fuel to keep the fire alive. The Berg Division of the R.M. of Garden River is under an evacuation order. Roberts estimates there are somewhere around 12 to 18 acreages in that area.
