Universal Hip- Hop Museum Celebrates Women In Hip-Hop With A New Women s History Month Campaign

The  Universal Hip Hop Museum is passing the mic to the women repping the culture with a powerful new campaign. The  Fresh, Bold, and So Def Women’s Initiative (FBSD), led by the  Hip Hop Education Center as the museum announces the kick-off of the plan as part of year-round programming leading up to the 15th anniversary of the Year of the Hip Hop Woman. Fresh, Bold, and So Def Women (FBSD) began as a Hip Hop feminist intervention project for women of all ages to empower, cultivate, and inspire. The project builds upon the foundation laid by the Womanhood Learning Project launched in 2007 at New York University by the Hip Hop Association and a collective of women who joined forces to tell their story of Hip Hop as they know it. “In this new era of Hip Hop, women are once again changing the game by building new pathways that empower and cultivate new talent. This new book celebrates pioneering women in hip hop

A new book celebrating pioneering women in hip hop has been published. The Motherlode: 100+ Women Who Made Hip-Hop, penned by Brooklyn-based writer Clover Hope and Illustrated by Rachelle Baker, is an illustrated highlight reel of more than 100 women in rap and hip hop who have helped shape the genre and eschewed gender norms in the process. The book, which is available from the 4th February via Abrams Books, features pioneers like Roxanne Shanté, game changers such as Lauryn Hill and Missy Elliott, and modern artists at the forefront of the game: Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, and Lizzo. They are characters, caricatures, lyricists, at times both feminine and explicit, The Motherlode s blurb reads, This book profiles each of these women, their musical and career breakthroughs, and the ways in which they each helped change the culture of rap.
