The ambitious crossing plan from Dundee to Fife - under the River Tay

Stewart Paterson: How can Glasgow be a healthier city if we keep approving fast food drive-thrus

We have an obsession with drive through fast food places. The latest in Glasgow is being built near Glasgow Harbour on greenspace land that is currently been cleared for the purpose. On a normal day, pre-lockdown and probably again post-lockdown, this is beside one of the busiest roads in the city. The roundabout that is to be located by is often blocked with traffic and as soon as there is an incident on the expressway or the Clyde Tunnel cars and vans are backed up on adjoining streets. If other drive thrus are to be taken as a benchmark then there is potential for cars to be queued up at busy times waiting to get in, adding to the congestion in the area.

Glasgow Times readers share fond tales of Clydeside ferries

Ian Hutcheson got in touch to share his evocative memories. “An everyday experience for adults can seem like an adventure to a child,” he tells us. “Taking a trip on one of the Clyde ferries was a fantastic thing to do. “We are not talking here about travelling to resorts like Arran or Dunoon, but the short crossing to Govan.” Ian’s grandmother would often take him on the Govan ferry to visit her friend who lived on the south side. “For her it was a social call, but for me it was more like going on an expedition,” he smiles.
