Local News: ES cemetery set to host volunteer spring clean (4/1/21)

Thursday, April 1, 2021 File photo The Eureka Springs Cemetery Commission is hosting a Spring Grounds Cleanup Day on Saturday, April 3, with the next Saturday as a rain date. Volunteers are welcome any time between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. The work will mainly involve picking up sticks and branches to prepare for spring mowing and Memorial Day. Doughnuts, coffee, water and a hot dog lunch will be provided. There may be some special gift eggs here and there, so children are welcome to attend with friends and family members to see what they can find. Local News: Eureka Springs city council moves forward with subdivision (2/2/21)

Tuesday, February 2, 2021 The Eureka Springs City Council is on board with the new Pine Crest Subdivision. On Monday, Jan. 25, the council heard an application from Jay Gustin for the subdivision, located off Pivot Rock Road. Council member Terry McClung moved to prepare an ordinance to approve the subdivision and city clerk Ann Armstrong explained that the proposed ordinance is a draft because city attorney Tim Weaver hasn’t had a chance to look over it yet. McClung asked Gustin if he can wait two weeks for the subdivision to be approved and Gustin said that would be fine with him. McClung suggested deferring the issue to the council’s next meeting, where the council would complete all three readings of the ordinance.

Local News: Director: Parks commission working on organization, finances (1/14/21)

Thursday, January 14, 2021 The Eureka Springs Parks and Recreation Commission has seen many changes over the past year. Samantha Jones / Lovely County Citizen The Eureka Springs Parks and Recreation Commission has a lot of work to do in 2021, and interim director Scott Miskiel said his team is ready for that challenge. Miskiel, who was named interim director last October after the firing of former director Justin Huss, said he’s working on getting parks finances in order. Miskiel said the commission voted last year to “take financial reports out of the previous director’s hands and hire an accountant.” The third-quarter financials for 2020 are still being processed, Miskiel said, and the fourth0quarter financials will come after that.
