Luton climb into top half of Championship table with win at 10-man Bournemouth Updated: January 16, 2021, 5:27 pm Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, right, scored Luton’s winner at Bournemouth (Kieran Cleeves/PA) Luton earned their third win in four games thanks to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s goal midway through the second half to beat Bournemouth 1-0. The Cherries played most of the match with 10 men as Jefferson Lerma was sent off after 25 minutes for leading with an arm in an aerial challenge with Tom Lockyer which left the Luton defender with a cut that required heavy bandaging. The defeat leaves the Cherries trailing the automatic promotion places whilst Luton climbed into the top half of the table.

Jefferson Lerma sent off as Cherries fall at home to Luton

A CONTROVERSIAL early red card shown to Jefferson Lerma helped Luton Town produce a shock victory over Cherries at Vitality Stadium. The only goal of the game came midway through the second half through midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s well-placed strike. But Cherries were left aggrieved after having to play more than an hour of the contest with 10 men after Lerma was sent off for accidentally catching the face of Tom Lockyer with his arm whilst challenging for a header. Boss Jason Tindall used all five available subs from his bench in the closing stages to try and forge a way back into the game, but one goal proved to be enough for the Hatters to take the win.

After the previous clash with the Hatters was postponed due to COVID-19 issues, the short trip to Bedfordshire was re-scheduled for this evening, giving the R s the perfect opportunity to seal a vital three points later on tonight. Following last weekend s defeat in the cup Rangers will be keen to record a victory and have been given an extra boost following the return of former star Charlie Austin.
