Montgomery: The state on Monday launched an online portal for people to check their eligibility for COVID-19 vaccinations and make appointments. The Alabama Department of Public Health said the site at alcovidvaccine.gov will allow those eligible to make an appointment if shots are available in their county of choice. The portal also provides information about additional drive-thru and walk-in clinics being offered. Starting next Monday, Alabama will expand who is eligible for the vaccine to everyone 65 and older, educators, court officials, corrections officers, postal employees, grocery store workers, some manufacturing workers, public transit workers, agriculture employees, state legislators and constitutional officers. The University of Mississippi will honor its first Black student-athlete, Coolidge Ball, with a life-size statue in the north plaza of The Pavilion come May 15., according to an announcement from Ole Miss Athletics on Monday. The university will also install a historical marker beside the statue to showcase Ball’s place in history as a civil rights pioneer.
“Coolidge Ball is a trailblazer whose lasting legacy at the University of Mississippi is reflected in how he braved uncharted territory and, in doing so, helped to move the university and our state forward,” Chancellor Glenn Boyce said in a statement. “As the first Black student-athlete to enroll here, Coolidge opened the door of opportunity for countless other student-athletes. This statue is a well-deserved and fitting honor that ensures his courage will always be remembered and celebrated by our university and our fans.”

During the 2021 Diversity Summit, the Office of Diversity and Community Engagement unveiled the University of Mississippi’s new Pathways to Equity plan, which aims to creating a more diverse and equitable learning and working environment.
University of Mississippi officials shared the institutional commitment to strengthening a diverse and equitable learning and working environment Friday (Jan. 22) with the official launch of the university’s new Pathways to Equity strategic plan.
The plan was presented as a part of the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement’s second Diversity Summit, which also featured a keynote from Gregory J. Vincent, professor and executive director of the Education and Civil Rights Initiative at the University of Kentucky, as well as a panel discussion between Vincent and UM diversity leaders.
University Partners with MSU to Advance Pharmacy Education

The University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy is strengthening its Preferred Admissions Program, as Mississippi State University becomes the fifth in-state college to collaborate with the pharmacy school.
The partnership offers admission for first-year MSU students who excel in pre-pharmacy classes and demonstrate a passion for service activities. Students who are part of the program will complete pre-pharmacy coursework at one of the five partner institutions before coming to Ole Miss to continue working toward a Doctor of Pharmacy degree.
“I applaud the School of Pharmacy for this program, which builds on the school’s history of successes in expanding pharmacy education in the state,” UM Chancellor Glenn Boyce said.
