After a day of voting and three days of ballot counting, the Republican slate is set for November’s state elections.
Glenn Youngkin secured the GOP nomination for governor and will be joined on the ballot by lieutenant governor nominee Winsome Sears and attorney general hopeful Del. Jason Miyares (R-82).
Party delegates cast votes at 39 locations around the commonwealth on Saturday’s unassembled convention. In Loudoun, delegates from throughout the 10
th Congressional District lined up outside the party headquarters in Ashburn to drop off their ballots in a drive-through collection. Statewide, only about half of the 53,000 registered delegates cast ballots on Saturday.

After months of anticipation, the day has finally arrived. Today, the Republican Party of Virginia held its convention to pick its nominees for governor, lieutenant governor, and attorney general. Voters had until 4pm on Saturday to get in line to vote.
With the nomination process taking place through a convention, delegates signed up to vote through candidates though they are not bound to them or through local Republican Party county organizations.
The Arlington GOP signed up more than 700 delegates alone, and the 8th district, which includes Alexandria and Falls Church, in addition to Arlington, signed up about 1,500 delegates. The voting process today was said to have run well in the 8th.
Six Republicans hope to earn a part-time salary to preside over the state Senate starting next year.
The job is lieutenant governor. And the $36,321 salary isnât the draw, itâs holding an office that puts the occupant one step from the governorâs mansion.
The lieutenant governor votes to break ties on most legislation in the Senate. Many Virginia governors once held the job, among them current Gov. Ralph Northam, U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., Democrats Doug Wilder and Chuck Robb and Republican John Dalton. The last Republican to hold the office was Bill Bolling, who served as lieutenant governor from 2006 to 2014.
