The Last Post. Pictures: Roger MacPherson A NEW Dorchester bar has been granted a premises licence for 10 years. An objection to the application for The Last Post, based around fears of noise to neighbours, led to a Dorset Council hearing to make a decision. The new licence will limit entertainment inside the South Street venue to 11pm and will ensure any outside seating is removed by 9pm. Live or recorded music will only be allowed on a Friday and Saturday and one other day per week and on New Year’s Eve and Christmas Eve. Alcohol sales will be allowed to continue until midnight.

AN EXCITING new bar and live music venue is to open its doors in Dorchester. The Last Post , a brand new café bar, will take over the former Post Office building in the town centre on South Street, which has been empty for around four-and-a-half years, having previously been Durnovaria wine bar as well as a coffee house. The venue will be open throughout the day as a café as well as opening until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays bringing a mix of live music, and bands and DJs to the town. It will also bring a jobs boost with around six to eight roles up for grabs - with experienced bar staff particularly needed.
