SEARCA backs PH gov t on stand against IUU fishing at WTO – Manila Bulletin

(Photo via Keith Bacongco / FILE PHOTO) On Tuesday, SEARCA Director and Chief Executive Officer Glenn Gregorio issued his official comments and notes regarding the revised draft of the consolidated chair text on WTO’s negotiating group on rules, particularly on fisheries subsidies. “Recognizing the importance of conserving coastal and marine resources, as further emphasized in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 14: Life below water), we support the call that, ‘no member shall grant or maintain any subsidy to a vessel or operator engaged in IUU fishing’,” said Gregorio.

Published April 24, 2021, 6:30 AM Jollibee Group Foundation (JGF) and Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) have forged a joint research deal that targets to increase onion production in the Philippines as well as improve the local supply systems. A statement showed that SEARCA and JGF, the corporate social responsibility arm of Jollibee Foods Corp., have recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that will pave the way for a research project specifically to improve the country’s yield for onion, with a specific focus on yellow onion. The MOU was signed by SEARCA Director Glenn Gregorio and JGF Executive Director Ma. Gisela Tiongson.

Under the partnership, a five-year memoranda of understanding (MoU) was signed by Glenn Gregorio, Searca director; Max Guillermo, TAU president; Mario R. Briones, LSPU president; and Tirso Ronquillo, BatStateU president. “Searca’s collaboration with agricultural universities is part of its strategy to harness academe-industry-government interconnectivity to revitalize the agriculture sector in the country,” Gregorio said.
