(Photo credit: Lauren Hunter) Many businesses and organizations have shifted operations online due to the pandemic, but staff members at the Northeast Georgia History Center have been using technology to bring history to life for years. In 2017, the center began offering live webcasts with schools through their Cottrell Digital Studio to reach students outside of the area who may not be able to visit the center in-person. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in March of last year, Cottrell Digital Studio Director Libba Beaucham said that history center staff found themselves in a very lucky situation.

The sport’s governing body released a statement at the end of last week confirming that the 2020/21 campaign for men and women would ‘not proceed, due to the on-going impact of Covid-19’. It also said that they ‘and the four provinces will now work with clubs to look at the completion of the Engeria Community Series and to review alternative forms of rugby, such as Lucozade Sport Touch and Volkswagen Tag, which may provide players with much sought after rugby later in the year’.

Ivester Education Center at Northeast Georgia History C

With the first of the year, the Northeast Georgia History Center in Gainesville will have a new Director for its Ada Mae Ivester Education Center. Northeast Georgia History Center Executive Director Glen Kyle said Marie Walker will take over the post effective Jan. 1, 2021, and it s all possible because of an endowment set up by well-know philanthropists Doug and Kay Ivester, who are natives of the Gainesville area.  That endowment this year reached over $500,000 and, as you can imagine, that does a lot to help us to sustain the educational work we do here at the History Center, Kyle said.  The initial donation was a personal gift from the Ivester family in 2009 to create the Ada Mae Ivester Education Center in a celebration for Doug Ivester s mother on her 80th birthday. Kyle said since that time others have added to the endowment - Ivester’s friends and associates such as Lynn and Diane Darby, Jack and Pat Burd, Ernst & Young, SunTrust and Atlanta Beverage Company t
