Wreckage of Maine-based Emmy Rose Found in Massachusetts Waters
The wreckage of a Portland-based ship that capsized last year off the coast of Massachusetts has been located.
Four fishermen died when the Emmy Rose went down in November 2020: Captain Robert Blethen Jr. of Georgetown, Maine; Jeffrey Matthews of Portland, Maine; Ethan Ward of Pownal, Maine; and Michael Porper of Gloucester, Massachusetts. The investigation into the cause of the wreck is ongoing, with family members pushing for answers about what happened that night, off the coast of Provincetown.
The Coast Guard in Massachusetts received a signal from the ship s emergency beacon at 1 a.m. that night, and dispatched rescue teams. All that could be located, however, was some debris and an empty life raft. Seas were 6 to 8 feet, and the winds were at 30 knots at the time.
