Gloucester 1776 living history this weekend – Gazette Journal

By Tyler Bass on May 19, 2021 The sounds of musket fire will be heard throughout Gloucester’s Main Street this weekend for “Gloucester 1776: A Revolutionary Experience.” This living history event is being put on by the Gloucester Historical Society, with help from the Friends of the Museum, the 7th Virginia Regiment, and Gloucester Parks, Recreation and Tourism. The activities will be held at the Colonial Court Circle and Museum of History from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. The museum will serve as home base for the event. “Gloucester 1776” is free to all wanting to learn about a specific time in Gloucester history. Prior to 1776, John Murray, Earl of Dunmore, more commonly referred to as Lord Dunmore, was the acting Colonial Governor of Virginia. Historian and head of the 7th Virginia Regiment reenactment group, Michael Cecere said that Virginia at the time was enlarging its military and the militias that were formed, eventually forced Dunmor

Food safety course to be held in July – Gazette Journal

Posted On May 19, 2021 A food safety certification course will be held from 2-5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 13-22, at the Stewart Building, 6382 Main Street, Gloucester. The class, offered by Gloucester Parks, Recreation and Tourism, offers instruction, book, scoresheet and test for this Gloucester County code requirement. The full class fee is $175 and the deadline to register is June 28. For those requiring a test only, there are two options: test with book for $85 and test without book for $65. The test will be held on July 22 and the deadline to sign up for the test is also June 28.
