They Live in Guinea to be shown at Genealogical Society meeting – Gazette Journal

Posted On May 12, 2021 The Gloucester Genealogical Society of Virginia will hold its first in-person meeting since COVID-19 struck, at 10 a.m. Monday, May 24, in the Community Room of the Gloucester Library, Main Street Center. The program will feature the showing of the 1996 documentary “‘They Live in Guinea,” a video of the Guinea fishing community in lower Gloucester. In accordance with the existing COVID-19 guidelines, those attending will be asked to wear masks and practice social distancing, limiting those in attendance to 26 people. Narrator of the video is the late C.B. “Buck” Rowe, at the time the owner/operator of one of the few surviving general stores in the Guinea area, C.B. Rowe & Son at Bena. This interesting look back of life in Guinea just a short 25 years ago is sure to invoke treasured memories of a Guinea that is all too quickly passing, a release stated.

Gloucester sets up Vaccination Resource Center – Gazette Journal

Posted On January 20, 2021 The COVID-19 Vaccination Resource Center is being staffed by Gloucester County staff members and is being housed in the Gloucester Main Library’s Community Room. Gloucester County, in coordination with and in support of the Three Rivers Health District, opened a COVID-19 Vaccination Resource Center on Tuesday in the Community Room of Gloucester Library, Main Street Center. While established in Gloucester, the service is available to all residents of the 10-county Three Rivers Health District, including Mathews. Staffed by Gloucester County employees, the call center which can be reached by calling 804-824-2733, will be operational Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., excluding state holidays.
