Dredging on deck for Kalamazoo River oxbow filled with dam sludge Updated Feb 26, 2021; Facebook Share COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, MI A hydropower company will begin dredging impoundment sludge from a Kalamazoo River side channel on Monday and says it’s planning to expand efforts to remove excessive sediment from a reservoir drawdown to other areas of the river. Eagle Creek Renewable Energy says it will dredge a small oxbow section of river next to Comstock Township’s Wenke Park starting March 1. The side channel has been filled-in with sediment from Morrow Lake that was allowed to wash downriver last year during a reservoir drawdown.

Daily Energy Insider Published on February 11, 2021 by Dave Kovaleski © Shutterstock American Electric Power sold its 48-megawatt (MW) hydroelectric Racine Plant in Racine, Ohio, to Eagle Creek Renewable Energy. “The sale of Racine Plant is part of our ongoing strategic evaluation of our generating assets as we focus on our regulated business operations and invest in the infrastructure and energy innovations that bring value to our customers,” Nicholas Akins, AEP chairman, president and CEO, said. “We continue to add new emission-free energy both in our regulated states and through contracted renewable projects that fit with our overall strategy and portfolio.” The sale is expected to close in the second quarter of 2021 and is subject to approval by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
