(WKBT) The holiday weekend kicked off a little early for the senior residents of an Onalaska living community.  Lights and sirens signaled the way for this community to come out of a COVID-19 imposed hibernation.  After more than a year of isolating from the virus, and as a consequence, each other, the vaccinated seniors at Havenwood of  Onalaska are celebrating Independence Day together. “The older you get the more important it is, ” said David Segler, a Havenwood resident who served as parade marshal. “It’s an exciting time. It’s really fun to get them out of their rooms, ” said Kathleen Manning, Havenwood’s life enrichment director. The pandemic forced Manning to end group activities and outings.

SIR – Much was made of “good faith” by the EU during Brexit negotiations. Recently there have been reports of its officious customs staff rejecting export documents for ridiculous reasons and even of lorry drivers’ sandwiches being confiscated. Now, in an attempt to draw attention away from its sclerotic vaccine procurement and approval process, the EU threatens to stop the export of vaccines from factories in continental Europe and demands that it be sent supplies produced in Britain. The EU would do well to remember that good faith works both ways. Do these bureaucrats decide they need some meat but stay in bed until midday, then rush to the butcher’s shop, push to the front of the queue and demand their meat immediately?
