Using public procurement powers to create sustainable community jobs

A campaigning organisation that fights for local authorities to use their purchasing powers to help the homeless and disadvantaged in the East End has been given a Queen’s Award.
Aspire Community Works, set up in Bethnal Green’s Minerva community centre, is one of 205 UK organisations receiving one of the Queen s Awards for Enterprise.

The organisation reaches out to people outside the labour market with training and jobs with “real living wages”.
Aspire provides estate management services to local authorities, housing associations and charities and competes with the private sector through public contracts.

Cllr Hood said that members making planning decisions sometimes did not even know where the site they were discussing was. He also questioned the way the new clerk to the council had been chosen - saying that the choice of Katharine Sutton for the job had not been agreed at a full council meeting. This was particularly embarrassing as Ms Sutton had earlier introduced herself on line at the virtual meeting, explaining it was her second day in the job. The meeting ended after three and a half hours with members failing to agree the Parish Council precept for the year, after Conservative member Cllr Dexter Smith questioned the right of members who lived outside the parish boundary to vote on it.

Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Delene Born, 90, Eudora, KS, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 19, 2020 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Eudora. Burial will follow at Holy Family Catholic Cemetery. Mary passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, KS.
Mary was born on May 13, 1930 in Eudora, the daughter of Fred E. and Marie A. (Fanning) Eder.
She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, St. Theresa Society Holy Family, Douglas County 4-H , 4-H Club Leader/Project Leader, 4-H Advisory Board and 4-H Counsel. She volunteered as a local election poll worker. She worked a number of years at the Eudora Public Library and then at JCPenney s until her retirement.
