A steady increase in cases of mucormycosis (popularly known as Black Fungus) and an alleged shortage of Amphotericin-B and Posaconazole injections is causing anxiety among patients and their relatives.

A large number of recovered persons are consulting post-COVID oxygenation facility set up by the Cyberabad police at Gachibowli here in the city.
The centre, which came into existence recently, supports the needy and poor patients who don’t have access to or cannot afford to buy or rent oxygen concentrators for post-COVID sustenance of saturation levels till full recovery.
“OxyCare Centre provides oxygen support which is the most sought after service now,” Cyberabad ACP G. Hanumantha Rao said, adding that it is a 50-bed facility. Citizens can call on 080-45811138 to avail the services.

At 1.40 p.m. on Tuesday, a volunteer at Cyberabad COVID control room received a call for an ambulance to shift a 66-year-old COVID patient to a hospital.
The ambulance reached the patient by 1.55 p.m., and she was shifted to State-run Nature Cure Hospital, Begumpet, in another 30 minutes.
In another emergency, an elderly couple was shifted to a private hospital at Somajiguda from their residence in Old Bhoiguda in less than one hour on Tuesday afternoon. Both of them, aged 66 and 58 years, got infected with the virus and were experiencing breathlessness when the control room received the emergency call at 3.02 p.m.

Hundreds of fresh Driving Licence applicants, as also those who have applied for renewal of their old licence, are annoyed at the undue delay in the issuance of smart cards by the Transport Department. Motorists are making no secret of their displeasure on social media.
A delay of a few days to a couple of weeks in the dispatch of the DL smart cards is understandable. But it has been nearly eight months since we have been waiting for the receipt of our driving licences, say applicants.

Posts on social media on adverse reactions seem to have created a scare among prospective beneficiaries of the COVID-19 vaccination programme, which was started in the country two weeks ago. A section of people, including doctors, are expressing apprehensions, even as many others vouch for its safety. Doctors say there is no cause for worry as mild reactions like rashes, swelling and pain due to the injection are common for any vaccine. However, the death of a couple of health workers, elsewhere in the State after taking the vaccine, is creating apprehension among public.
