(WDAM) - As the Pine Belt prepares for potential severe weather Wednesday, a group of volunteers continues to help families affected by last April’s tornadoes. Case workers from the Covington County Long Term Recovery Committee and Recover, Rebuild, Restore Southeast Mississippi (R3SM) met at “The Springs” Church is Collins Tuesday morning. The groups are still assisting on several home repairs and a few rebuilding projects from the Easter 2020 tornadoes.

The Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office and the Simpson County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the arrest of Jimmy Pearson Jr. on Joe Booth Road. Law enforcement also seized pills and a firearm.

(WDAM) - Covington County Hospital is opening a new drive-thru clinic in Collins to administer COVID-19 vaccines. It’s in the former Covington County Nursing Center, across from Collins High School. It’ll be open from 9 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday-Friday. Hospital personnel says the goal is to offer most vaccinations from one location. “We’re partially consolidating our vaccine efforts,” said Clancy Sanford, marketing director for Covington County Hospital. “We will leave some vaccines in our outlying areas, such as Magee, Sumrall and Taylorsville, but for our Covington County people, this will give them one place to go to know that they can receive their vaccine quickly, efficiently and without having to encounter any sick patients in our clinics.”

(WDAM) - Some residents of District Four in Covington County are stepping up efforts to clean up roadsides in their community. Members of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, District Four supervisor Fenton Pope and other local residents made their way along several roads in the district Saturday morning, to pick up bottles, cans, paper plates and plastic bags. Pope and other residents say it’s part of a new initiative to keep neighborhoods clean.
