COVID-19 surge: Congress wants extension of lockdown in Goa

Synopsis
Following a very high test positivity rate, Goa went into a lockdown on Friday and it will remain applicable till 6 am on Monday. All essential services have been exempted from the curbs.
Kamat also said vaccines against COVID-19 should be procured on a war-footing and the first dose should be administered to all eligible people by mid-July this year.
Leader of Opposition in the Goa Assembly Digambar Kamat on Sunday said the four-day lockdown imposed in the state needs to be extended in view of the grim situation in the coastal state.

Margao (Goa) [India], April 20 (ANI): Leader of Opposition in Goa Assembly Digambar Kamat slammed the state government and said that it is horrific to know that the bankrupt BJP government headed by Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has no money even to dispose of unclaimed bodies lying in the mortuary at Margao. I urge the South Goa District Collector to immediately give orders for the disposal of the same. I will personally make all necessary arrangements for their respectful cremation, Kamat said.

PANAJI: The Goa Bench of the Bombay High Court on Monday set aside a notification issued by the state government s Directorate of Municipal Administration reserving various wards in five out of 11 civic bodies where elections will be held later this month.
The court ordered the Goa government to reconduct the exercise of reservation of wards in the five municipal councils of Margao, Mormugao, Mapusa, Sanguem and Quepem.
