New and More Potent Strain of Coronavirus Traced in Sri Lanka According to a top immunologist from Colombo, a new and more potent strain of coronavirus has been detected in Sri Lanka which can remain airborne for nearly an hour.   |  24 April 2021 1:07 PM GMT Colombo- A new and more potent variant of the novel coronavirus has been detected in Sri Lanka, which has a dangerous potential to remain airborne for an hour and spreads very fast. Neelika Malavige, the head of the Department of Immunology and Molecular Sciences of the Sri Jayawardenapura University said this new variant is highly transmissible and can remain airborne for nearly an hour. She added by saying that it spreads at a very fast pace.
