After its dismal performance in north Kerala last time, the Congress is looking forward to improve its performance in the just- concluded Assembly polls.
In the previous elections, the party nominees ahd won just six of the 60 seats in north Kerala. Pathetically, it was without legislators in Kasaragod and Kozhikode districts in the past three terms.
Despite the hiccups in choosing its candidates in many Assembly constituencies, the Congress leadership finally managed to pull off towards the last round of electioneering. Ground realities revealed that Congress candidates would emerge victorious in a couple of seats more this time in the six districts, party functionaries said.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As the Left front began its stock taking after the assembly elections, the CPM feels that the contest could possibly have a close finish. Even as the district committees have begun their respective assessment, the party is of the view that it would be able to win around 80-85 seats.

Both the main fronts, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI-M]-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) are keeping their fingers crossed over the poll outcome in 13 Assembly constituency segments in Kozhikode district.
Leaders of political parties are trying out different methods from the booth-level on calculating which way the election will turn out on May 2. “The LDF will make a clean sweep. We are confident of retaining all our sitting seats. And we hope to capture the Kuttiyadi and the Kozhikode South seats as well,” P. Mohanan, district secretary of CPI(M), said.

EC updates district’s polling percentageto 78.42
The Election Commission has updated the voter turnout in the Assembly polls in Kozhikode district to 78.42%.
Officials said that Kunnamangalam Assembly segment witnessed the highest voter turnout (81.55%) and Kozhikode north the lowest (73.85%). The overall turnout is likely to increase when postal votes are added to the tally. As of now, 33,734 voters have cast their votes through the postal facility.
