Woman winched from Marlborough river after accident

The Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter carried out a tricky rescue from a Malrborough river. A woman was winched from rugged terrain in Marlborough after being injured during a canyoning trip. The Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter flew to Doom Creek in Wakamarina, behind Canvastown, just before 4.30pm on Saturday after a personal locator beacon was activated. Pilot Colby Tyrrell​ said the rescue involved a technical winch job to get down to the woman. “It was at a tricky bend in the river with very steep terrain, heavily wooded and tall trees, that was inaccessible.” READ MORE:

Truck driver flown to hospital after crashing in Tasman

A man was flown to Christchurch hospital after crashing in Maruia north of Springs Junction on Saturday. A man has been flown to Christchurch Hospital after crashing on a Tasman highway. The Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter picked up a truck driver on Saturday at noon after he crashed on State Highway 65 in Maruia between Creighton and Boundary Roads. Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter pilot Colby Tyrrell said the man had moderate injuries after crashing off the road in a truck. He said the helicopter landed in a nearby paddock and flew the man to Christchurch Hospital for treatment. A police spokesperson said fire, ambulance and police attended the crash.

Quad bike accident sees Marlborough Sounds girl flown to Nelson

A Marlborough Sounds girl has serious injuries after being in a quad bike accident. The 12-year-old girl was flown to Nelson Hospital by the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter on Sunday afternoon after coming off the quad bike she was riding in Resolution Bay, said helicopter pilot, Colby Tyrrell. Tyrrell said it was a pretty difficult landing, one that was expected to be a winch “but we managed to land on a pretty confined grassed area on the property – about as confined as it gets”.

Man seriously injured in logging truck crash near St Arnaud

Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter pilot Colby Tyrrell​ said he understood the man had suffered some sort of mishap in a logging truck. The injured man had been transported by his colleagues to the main road and was seen by St John paramedics. The helicopter landed on the road at the Kohatu Junction, at the intersection of State Highway 6 and the Motueka Valley Highway by the Kohatu Flat Rock Cafe, to transport the man to hospital. The road was closed temporarily while the helicopter landed, but has since reopened. Stuff
