The LSU Tigers (4-5) faced the Ole Miss Rebels (4-4) on December 19, 2020 in the battle for the Magnolia Bowl Trophy at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, LA. The game ended in an LSU victory with a score of 53-48.
LSU went three and out on their first drive and punted to Ole Miss to start out the game.
Ole Miss took their first offensive drive 85 yards and capped it with a touchdown pass.
With ole Miss up 7-0, Max Johnson and the LSU offense got momentum with a first down completion to TE Kole Taylor. But that was short lived, as another punt put the football back in Rebels’ hands.
Sitting here trying to put LSU s monumental 37-34 win over Florida into some kind of serious historical perspective . but dang if I can keep a straight face.
There were other factors, to be sure, but the Tigers won a game because a Florida Gator defensive back picked up an LSU player s loose shoe and tossed it down field. Can t get around it.
I want to talk about â forget 15-0 and all that national championship silliness â how Saturday night was Ed Orgeron s finest coaching moment . but I can t quit giggling long enough.
Kids, huh? What on earth was Florida s Marco Wilson thinking after he d dislodged Kole Taylor s shoe and saw it on the turf. It was the biggest throw of the night, turning fourth-and-6 for the Tigers to first-and-10 and keeping LSU s game-winning drive alive.

Alabama did its part to set up a Southeastern Conference championship game between two College Football Playoff contenders.
No. 11 Florida didn’t hold up its own end, stumbling to an upset loss to LSU in a game settled on dueling long field goals and a costly penalty.
Now the unanimous No. 1-ranked Crimson Tide (10-0) confronts a Florida team trying to overcome an emotional hangover from that loss. It dealt a potentially fatal blow to the Gators’ hopes of making the College Football Playoffs.
“I expect us to have a great week of practice, have a lot of energy and a lot of excitement,” Florida coach Dan Mullen said Sunday. “This is what you work for, the opportunity to go play in this game.
