Well that was unbelievable.
Given the sheer amount of attrition LSU has experienced not only in the offseason and the course of the regular season, but in the lead up to/during the actual game. Micah Baskerville didn’t travel with an apparent illness, Derek Stingley sat with injury (good, he’s been hurt all year, please just rest), and the top two running backs went down. All of that in addition to already apocalyptic and well documented attrition. LSU was certainly lucky to win, but they played with an unbelievable amount of heart and effort, that’s all you could ask.
Roy Exum: A Great ‘Life Lesson’ Monday, December 14, 2020 - by Roy Exum

Having spent quite a career as a story-teller in sports, perhaps I am better tuned than most in recognizing the delicious parables and parallels we see on our fields of competition that are, in better truth, some of the most brilliant ‘life lessons’ that unfold before our eyes. I watched a fistful of college football games on Saturday and, by far, the best of the day was a dazzling point-for-point battle of brawn between upstart LSU and No. 6 Florida in Gainesville.
I’ve watched games on Florida Field where the fog rolls in and creates a surreal landscape, and I’ve seen great teams like this year’s Gators get so caught up in their newspaper clippings they are assured it won’t take much to slap down a floundering LSU, the reigning national champs who have ‘stunk it up’ so badly with five losses they are a laughing stock.

It was looking like the game going to end in a draw, with LSU and Florida Gators tying at 34-34, until Marco Wilson decided to…throw a show. Marco Wilson was helping Kole Taylor to tackle an LSU player, when he somehow ended up with the player’s cleat in his hand.
He then threw the shoe across the field, 20 yards to be exact. In return, the referee gave them a 15-yard unsportsmanlike penalty, and LSU got a new set of downs. This then allowed Cade York to score a 57-yard field goal and ultimately win LSU the game.
