The interim board chair for Invest North Bay released legal advice this week arguing the development corporation is not a local board, rebutting a previous ruling made during the course of a code of conduct investigation involving the organization.
Coun. Dave Mendicino shared the opinion, which he requested of the city’s current integrity commissioner, Guy Giorno, with local media.

Giorno previously recused himself from the same code of conduct complaint that was later investigated and resulted in a determination that Invest North Bay is a local board under the Municipal Act, an argument that has since been used to criticize the organization’s closed-door meetings.

The City of North Bay has begun its pre-qualification process for the construction of a new twin-pad arena at Steve Omischl Sports Field Complex.
A statement released Tuesday afternoon said the city has issued a request for pre-qualification, where general contractors interested in managing and overseeing the construction of the facility can apply.

Respondents would then be shortlisted based on their experience and qualifications, and be eligible to participate in an invitational, second-stage competitive process for the potential construction of the arena.

The owners of the former Sands motel say they are negotiating the sale of the downtown property, just as the city seeks quotes for the site’s eventual demolition.

In an email to The Nugget, owner Paul Lamarche says the sale of the property is being negotiated and they are “excited to see what the new owners will be doing with it.”
The Sands property is currently owned by a numbered company, operated by Lamarche and Robert Kingsnorth, land title and corporate records show, and registered at a suite in an office building at 347 Sherbrooke St.
