Thailand has announced a major plan to reboot tourism in the country and is now welcoming foreign-flagged yachts with a reduced quarantine period, with further reductions likely to come soon.
Quarantine reductions began when the Thai cabinet approved a progress plan starting 1 April, 2021, with quarantine for visitors cut from 14 days to 10 days for all arrivals (with the exception of visitors from some African countries).
“We have a few superyachts currently in Singapore that want to come to Phuket,” comments Gordon Fernandes and Tanyuta Singhmanee (Jojo), co-owners of Asia Pacific Superyachts. “This is great news for them!”
PHUKET, 5, 2021: Superyacht owners and service organisations
welcome Thailand’s move to ease quarantine rules, according to Gordon Fernandes
and Tanyuta Singhmanee (Jojo), co-owners of Asia Pacific Superyachts.
In a press statement released at the weekend, they enthused:
“We have a few superyachts currently in Singapore that want to come to Phuket.
This is great news for them.”
Thailand started to ease rules on 1 April, reducing the
quarantine period down to seven days in some instances, according to a Tourism
Authority of Thailand report based on government announcements.
By 1 July vaccinated international travellers from low-risk
countries will be able to visit Phuket entirely quarantine free.

Thailand is set to become the latest country in the Asia Pacific region to open up to the charter of foreign flagged superyachts. It has been agreed that foreign-flagged vessels will no longer have to pay VAT on the value of their vessel when entering the country, and it is expected that an official announcement on charters will follow shortly.
Under the current arrangements, charters beginning in Thailand must terminate in another country, with many heading from Thailand to Langkawi, Malaysia. The proposed new legislation would allow superyachts to stay and enjoy the immaculate cruising grounds of Thailand, encouraging more owners to station their yachts in the country.

The first foreign-flagged superyacht has completed quarantine aboard in Phuket and is now able to enjoy Thailand’s natural splendour and cruising grounds. The superyacht, brought into the country by Asia Pacific Superyachts (APS), produced negative tests after the quarantine period and is now able to moor in its marina of choice as well as travel within Phuket.
“
The APS team was delighted to be part of the critical process for the first superyacht to clear into the country and complete quarantine aboard,” said Gordon Fernandes, APS Phuket co-founder. Fernandes also disclosed that the Royal Thai Navy was involved in monitoring the yacht during quarantine to ensure that she remained in the allocated area, tracking the vessel by Automatic Identification System (AIS).
