WATERVILLE A 2-year-old boy shot in the head Jan. 2 in his Western Avenue home is recovering in a Boston rehabilitation hospital as state and local police continue to investigate the shooting with plans to forward the case to the district attorney’s office for review.

WATERVILLE A 2-year-old boy shot in the head Saturday in his Western Avenue home remained Tuesday in a Portland hospital.
“The boy remains in the hospital,” Maine State Police media coordinator Katharine England said in an email Tuesday in response to a request for comment. “No charges have been filed, but when the investigation is complete, it will be reviewed by the DA’s office. Investigators are not commenting on other aspects of the case as it remains an active investigation.”
The boy, whom police reported Sunday was in critical condition at Maine Medical Center, apparently was shot by an older sibling just before noon Saturday at their 92 Western Ave. home. State police said the older sibling “found the gun that was secured in a closet, loaded it, and a round was fired.”
State, local police investigate Waterville shooting
A shooting occurred Saturday on Western Avenue in Waterville, but state and local police are not commenting on the incident.

WATERVILLE Maine State Police and Waterville police are investigating a shooting on Western Avenue, but are not saying what happened.
Katy England, social media coordinator for Maine State Police, said at 7:11 p.m. in an email that confirmation of a shooting came from Major Crimes Central.
“Maine State Police Major Crimes Central assisted Waterville Police Department with a shooting at a residence on Western Ave. in Waterville,” England’s email says. “No details are available at this time as investigative efforts are continuing. There is no threat to the public.”
